Fundraising FAQs: Everything You Need to Get Started

How should I fundraise?

There are endless exciting ways to raise funds for seriously ill children—and have a blast doing it! Tap into your passions by hosting a bake sale, selling crafts, organizing a baseball tournament or fun run, or even suggesting dress-down days at work or school. Fundraising can be both fulfilling and fun, and every event makes a difference!

Do I have to register my event?

Yes, events must be registered with us to access our exclusive toolkit of resources. Click HERE to get started and access all the tools you’ll need for a successful fundraiser!

Can I use the Starlight logo?

Absolutely! Once you register your event, you’ll receive a link to our online toolkit, complete with logos, flyers, and all the essential information about Starlight Canada.

Where does the money go?

Proceeds from your fundraiser will directly brighten the lives of families with seriously ill children through Starlight Canada’s hospital-to-home programs.

Is there a fundraising minimum?

No fundraising minimums—every dollar counts! Big or small, your fundraiser helps Starlight Canada brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families. Every donation makes a difference.

What if I don’t reach my fundraising goal?

Don’t worry if you don’t hit your goal exactly—goals are meant to be inspiring, but we understand things change! You can always adjust your target throughout your campaign. The important thing is that you’re making a difference, no matter the final total.

Can donors get a tax receipt?

Absolutely! We can issue tax receipts for most donations. Just provide the donor’s name, billing address, email, and phone number. Need more details? Contact us with any questions.

Who’s in charge of event insurance?

That’s all on the event organizer! You’ll need to handle the event insurance, but if you need any tips or guidance, we’re happy to help.

Will Starlight reimburse me for event expenses?

While Starlight isn’t able to cover your event costs, we’re here to offer advice on how to create the best budget for your event and maximize those donations!

Can supporters donate with cash and cheques, or just cards?

You bet! Cash and cheques are welcome too. You can mail or drop them off at your local Starlight office. Or, if it’s easier, deposit the funds and send us one cheque for the total amount. Simple and easy!

A donor wants to give directly to Starlight – can I count it towards my fundraising total?

Totally! Just have the donor mention they’re supporting your event when they make the donation, and we’ll be sure to add it to your fundraiser total.
