They recognize the hardships that many children of different illnesses and abilities face, and support Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada’s mission of brightening the lives of those in need.

For many hospitalized children, every moment spent away from family and friends takes away from care-free childhood experiences. Thanks to the Sofina Foundation’s incredible contribution, 10 Starlight Nintendo Switch Handhelds have been placed in 6 different hospitals, which will collectively reach over 21,900 pediatric patients annually. These portable gaming systems loaded with endless hours of entertainment provide kids in hospitals with a moment of fun in a stressful environment, while also supporting their mental and emotional well-being.

Outside of the hospital, the Sofina Foundation is making an impact through our Starlight Great Escapes Wishes program. Sponsored by the Sofina Foundation, 88 Starlight family members recently attended The Valleyfield Regatta at Saint-François Bay, Quebec.

This world-class sports and culture festival presented spectacular hydroplane races, where sick children witnessed exhilarating boats reaching top speeds! Over the course of 3 days, Starlight families enjoyed the adrenaline-packed races and were treated to a special viewing experience at Flotel, a floating accommodation along the bay. Complete with food and beverages, time for swimming, and even the chance to see the hydroplanes up close, new memories were created away from the medical worries. During the evenings, families even took their turn on the water, cruising in the Starlight pontoon and enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime ride on the hovercraft!

“Thank you for this wonderful day. Azalée loved the event, and she can’t wait to see you all again,” shared Marie-Eve, mom of Starlight Teen, Azalee, who lives with cerebral palsy. “Marilou also appreciated it; she was very impressed to be able to sit in a Regatta!”
